Friday Afternoon Fix - Running Dictation.

It's hot, Friday afternoon and the students want to sleep! What to do??

Try this low prep, high energy activity. It works every time and students love it.

Prep

  1. Put three or four very short paragraphs on the wall around the room.

Tell the students ....

  1. In pairs Student A is the writer and Student B is the reader.

  2. Student B walks to the first text, reads a few words, then repeats the what he has read to Student A who writes what they hear. Student B continues to go, read and dictate the first text until Student A has written the whole paragraph.

  3. Student A and Student B now swap roles. They repeat the same process. When Student B has written the whole paragraph they swap again for the next paragraph. This continues until they have completed the whole text.

Spice it up by ...

  • Students love competition. First pair finished wins.

  • The reader must speak only - no writing or gesturing.

  • They may not move to sit closer to the wall with the paragraph on it.

  • Punctuation must be correct! Welcome to your blog post. Use this space to connect with your readers and potential customers in a way that’s current and interesting. Think of it as an ongoing conversation where you can share updates about business, trends, news, and more.
